Screen - 01 KeithFrom the age of four until he was seventeen, Dr. Carreiro studied classical guitar privately with Maestro Joseph Raposo, Sr. (Boston Conservatory of Music).  After obtaining his undergraduate degree in English at the University of Maine Orono (1971), he studied composition and music theory with José da Costa and classical guitar with Robert Paul Sullivan (both of the New England Conservatory of Music).

Attending a master world class in classical guitar at Ithaca College, taught by Maestro Miguel Ábloniz (Milan) in July 1972, he received the Maestro’s handmade guitar at the end of the class.  Carreiro then helped establish the classical guitar department at Bowdoin College.

A poet and former solo concert classical guitarist, who toured throughout North and South America in the 1970s, Dr. Carreiro has spent the last four decades being passionately involved in teaching and in the literary and performing arts.  He has integrated this background and experience into his professional educational career and

practice, blending his artistic understanding, performance knowledge and aesthetic awareness with his research into, and teaching of, the nature of inquiry, professional development, creativity and critical thinking.

Currently, Dr. Carreiro teaches at the BCC Attleboro [BCC/A] Learning Center as an adjunct faculty member.  As Coordinator of the Writing Center there, he is one of three tutors serving the writing needs of the BCC/A faculty and students.  He also serves BCC/A as a part–time academic counselor.

Dr C is married to Carolyn Ann Carreiro.  Carolyn is a singer, songwriter and a visual artist, specializing in pastels.  Together, they have played and performed their music throughout the United States.  They have had the great fortune to raise six children, and are now having the luxury of spoiling eight grandchildren.  The Carreiros are owned by one cat, two Maltese and one golden retriever.
